Taka Takadimi Takadimi Taka Takadimi
This project was my diploma for the evening college I did and it is an approach of connecting jewelry with music through ornaments and shapes/sizes as well as a way of connecting two different instruments through a rhythmic language which is embedded in the structure of the whole object.
The strange title of this work “Taka Takadimi Takadimi Taka Takadimi” is Konnakol, a rhythmic language, used as a way of notation for drums and percussion.
My goal in this work was to combine two drums I play, the tabla, an Indian drum, and the bodhrán, an Irish drum, through a Konnakol phrase which could be played with both instruments.

My goal in this work was to combine two drums I play, the tabla, an Indian drum, and the bodhrán, an Irish drum, through a Konnakol phrase which could be played with both instruments.
Taka dimi Taki ta Ta Ta kita Takadimi I broke the phrase itself down into its parts, assigned a specific size and shape to each part and then arrange the whole phrase in a certain way as shown in the drawing on the right side.
Each part consists of a broad ring and a circular disk on top of it. Depending on its size it can be used as a different part of a jewelry set. The biggest ring is a bracelet, while the cover of it can be worn as a brooch. The smallest parts consist of actual rings and pins while the medium sized are for pendants. For the brooch as well as for the necklace there is only one base model each which is stored in the center of the object. The wearer can for example select one of the nine big disks and slide it into the mounting of the brooch base. Therefore the whole object consists of a total of 40 different pieces of jewelry. |
Every piece has an ornament on it, either etched, cut out or a combination of both. The ornaments are taken from Indian and Irish culture to represent the instruments. They are partly inspired by ornaments from buildings or books or entirely designed by myself.
